La Traviata
Plans are afoot for a remount.
A courtesan has to not only be pretty, she has to move with grace, be cultured, knowledgeable about current events and an excellent conversationalist, often in several languages. Violetta is a victim of circumstance, but not a victim. Orphaned and handed off to an uncle, who took her to Paris to work as a seamstress, Violetta is no dummy. She came to the conclusion that her life would be less stressful if she utilized her gifts – in this case attractiveness and intelligence to create a better life for herself rather than be penniless. The grand tragedy is that she buckled and allowed Alfredo’s father to get under her skin.
